I am...

I am nothing short of amazing.  I am a mother of two perfect little boys and the wife of a super awesome husband.  I am hard-working, intelligent, creative, handy and crafty.  I can whip up a lesson or a beautiful hand-made quilt in no time.  I balance my home, children, work, photography business and my friends as best I can.  I am a good friend to those that deserve me.  I am the best daughter a parent could ask for.  I can be and do many things.  One thing I cannot do is breastfeed.  ONE THING.

This one thing I cannot do has plagued me since my first was born and has continued with the second. With my first I have to say I did not give it a chance after my negative experience with the lactation consultants at the hospital.  With my second child, I went to classes, prepared my inverted nipples ahead of time, bought all necessary supplies, made a support system... everything.  I asked for help and tried many things.  It just did not work. I cried and had anxiety attacks over not being able to feed my son.  This is something I should be able to do.  Why would God give me breasts if not for this? I beat myself up until I came to terms with the facts.  I am fine with my decision to FEED my child as best I can but when things happen like today... it doesn't help.

Today my wounds were opened back up by an insensitive comment made by one of my friends.  I was called lazy for formula feeding.  ME.  Lazy.  This... coming from a friend, really hurt. I should not have to defend my choice to formula feed nor have to feel ashamed for nurturing my child as best I can.  I am sick and tired of being bombarded with articles and information about how I'm truly doing my child a disservice by not breastfeeding.  I am an intelligent woman... I know "breast is best" but formula is a close second.  You can't tell me that I am not bonding with my child when I am feeding him his bottle.  You can't tell me that either of my children are unhealthy (I can count on one hand the amount of times T has been sick).  You can't tell me that my children are not intelligent. You can't tell me that my children are overweight.

Why is it anyone's business how I feed my child? Why is this a question asked of mothers? I am not pro formula feeding... nor am I pro breastfeeding.  I'm pro do whatever the fuck works for you and your family.  Oh, and of all the words that can be used to describe me...lazy is not one of them.

Let's Blow Some Dust Off...

A lot has happened since my last post around here.  The biggest news is my family grew by one! I am completely in love with the new addition and how well T has adjusted to being a big brother.  It truly seems like our little L has been around forever and we don't know what our life was without him.

My pregnancy with L took its toll on me in that I suffered from foot pain and constant fatigue.  That and "eating for two" has created my current situation.  While I am happy with my baby boy and family-- I'm not happy with my weight gain.  I know it took 9 months to get there and I'm only three months postpartum but patience was never my virtue.  I'm trying to set realistic goals for myself and try to enjoy the body I have now while I work on the body I want.

So... my (hopefully) realistic plan is:

  • go to the gym Tuesdays and Thursdays after work
  • weather permitting, walk around the neighborhood on other days
  • eat 1,600 calories a day
  • treat myself to new gym clothes after a month of regular gym visits
  • walk/run 6k in April
If there are any words of wisdom out there, please share.

Pinterest Challenge Wednesdays

I've missed taking a picture once or twice but S and I have been keeping up our Pinterest challenges.  Here are the past few outfits starting with the most recent (today).  I love doing this because it helps me step out of my box and try combinations I wouldn't try otherwise.  And it seems that I'm enjoying stripes... a lot... and coral ;)  Nothing wrong with that!

Pinterest Challenge Wednesdays

So my friend S had this idea of challenging ourselves to pick a Pinterest inspiration to try every wednesday.  The inspiration can be an outfit, hairstyle, makeup or nails.  Unfortunately, I did not get a picture of the first challenge but we'll start with what I did today...

Today I went for both makeup and hair.

This was the inspiration for the makeup:

Because I had to do my makeup for work I did not go as dark as the inspiration... but I think I did good :)
Now I need to come up with next week's inspiration!  What should it be!?

Random Ramblings...with photos ;)

I've been in a funk the past couple of weeks... I don't think the weather is helping and work makes me batty sometimes.  But I have much to make me happy!

1.  This kid... he makes me laugh.  He has the best eyes and sense of humor.  He's growing up way too fast.  I can't keep up!
2.  Visits with my Aunt are great.  My family is not close by so it's good to take the time to drive up to see her as she's the closest family I have!  Doesn't she look great!?  77.
3.  Jamberry nails... my new addiction.  $15... two manicures and it looks like you spent tons of $ at the nail salon.  Best thing?  It lasts more than two days ;)
4.  C got me boots for Christmas.  Unfortunately, they were a bit big so I had to exchange them for other boots... these were the ones I picked.  I may have a boot addiction now....
5.  Attempting meal planning and drinking more water.  We'll see how it goes.  If anything, my message center from HOme Goods looks good in the kitchen ;)
Like I said "random ramblings".  I'm not sure any of this makes sense but I posted... so that's a start!

::::blows of dust:::::

Ahem... so it has been a while.  I've been busy/tired and frankly haven't had much to share.  I miss doing my count your blessings posts so that's what this will be.  Today I am grateful for:

1.  Our beautiful home and the time to enjoy it... especially on a snow day... or two!
2.  More frequent date nights with the husband!  Enjoying working on our relationship.  Love this guy <3 p="">

3.  Doing nice things for the husband... like getting concert tickets to hear the Symphony of Zelda.  Now THAT is love!
4.  Taking care of myself and dressing up :)
5.  Loving on babies... especially those belonging to great friends.  Keep having babies people!
6.  Doing new things as a family... and doing things that are way outside my box.

If anyone still reads this... what are you grateful for??

What I've been up to...

It has been a while since I've blogged... been a bit busy!  Between a kindergartener, a new house and a job I've been left with almost zero time to blog.  So... here's what I've been up to using my Instagram pics ;)

A little decorating for the season
A lot of spending time with these guys
Taking a moment to enjoy nature and photography
Putting my pictures up where they should be!  Not on my computer and up on my walls!
Putting together our new king size bed.  Where has this been all my life!?
Trying to take care of ME
Painting the guest room and $10 fleamarket finds... and a $3 lamp!
A lot of grading... and I still am not caught up :/
Finally spending some quality time with the husband :)
Getting the last of the boxes organized and unpacked.  Who's ready for a fancy party?  All my pretty plates are out!
What have YOU been up to?  If anyone still reads this blog ;)
